Mother Rosetta P. Styles transitioned and gained her heavenly wings on December 25, 2021. She was born November 11, 1933, to the late Mitchell Sr. and Edna Patterson. She was the eldest child born to this union.
She attended Knoxville City Schools and as an adult worked as a Cafeteria Worker with Knox County Schools. Mother worked on UT Campus in dining services and later with CAC Mobile Meals and the Foster Grandparent program from where she retired.
Mother was a faithful member of New Friendship Missionary Baptist Church where she served on the usher board as President and Vice President. She was President of the Senior Ministries and sang in the Women’s Choir.
Our Mother was the matriarch of our family. She held the family together with her no-nonsense personality and beautiful smile that could light up any room. She was very witty and kept everyone laughing!
Preceded in death by her sons, Victor Styles, Gary Styles and Walter E. Patterson; grandchildren, TaKonda “T.C.” Styles and Spencer Styles; parents, Mitchell Sr. and Edna Patterson; brother, David Patterson and sister, Joyce Dragg.
Mother was blessed with ten children with the union of James E. Styles, Sr.
She leaves to cherish her precious memory: children, Aretha (Michael) Gilbreath, Jeffery (Jackie) Styles, Jane (Firson) Johnson, James Jr. (Crystal) Styles, Andre’ Styles (Peaches) and Anthony (Camillia) Styles and Tammy Styles; very very devoted father of her children and forever friend, James E. Styles, Sr.; loving grandchildren, Walter, Javiette, Courtland (Erin), TaQuasha, Marchia, Javonda, Denotra (Jazz), Charles (Valencia), Precious (Alex), Thomas (LeQuisha), JarNeisha, Golden, Collette, Shawn, James Thomas, James, James III, Channel, Malik, Shanema, Thomajah, Irrick (Desteania), Nikki (Jerome), Jarrius, JaNae and LaNae; great grandchildren, great great grandchildren and great great great grandchildren who she loved dearly; brother, Mitchell Patterson, Jr.; sisters, Dora Bowden and Johnnie Bridges; a host of other family and friends to include very devoted friends, Josephine Guthrie, Rosalind White and Nancy Troutman.
Friday, December 31, 2021, , a public walkthrough scheduled from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at New Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, 1933 Texas Avenue, Knoxville, TN. Social distancing and face coverings required. Funeral service to follow for immediate family and close friends. Reverend Dr. Joseph B. Smith, Jr. will officiate. Interment at Highland South Cemetery, 9010 W. Simpson Road, where a white dove release will conclude the service. Flowers may be delivered to the church the morning of the walkthrough.
