Ruby Jean Woods Obituary

Ruby Jean Woods passed away the evening of Wednesday, February 8, 2023. Ruby was born in Oak Ridge, TN on January 5, 1951.

Preceded in death; husband Wade Woods, father Willie Boyd, mom Laura Jackson, sister Gloria Jean Johnson, brother Samuel Eunice, daughter Angela Prater, son James Walker Jr., grandson Richard Ragland III, and granddaughter Jasmine Walker.

Ruby was a pillar in her community. If you were a visitor in her home, she fed you a full course meal and homemade cake. Ruby was there for her children, grandchildren, and greatgrandchildren. If they needed her help, she never hesitated to help; a place to lay their heads, a ride to work, grocery store, dr’s appt, to get this that and the other and so much more. Her energy was always on 100!

Ruby enjoyed a great number of vacations; Hilton Head, Myrtle Beach, Orlando, Pensacola, New Orleans, and Tybee Island. In 2017, she went on her 1st cruise with family to Labadee Haiti, Falmouth Jamaica, and Cozumel Mexico. As well as in 2019, she went on her 2nd cruise to Basseterre St Kitts, San Juan Puerto Rico, and Nassau Bahamas. She went to Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg on a regular basis. Ruby saw Charlie Wilson in concert twice, enjoyed some gut busting laughs at Uptown Comedy Corner, as well as had a blast at the Soul Circus. Whenever she was in Atlanta, she was pampered like a queen at Phalin’s nail salon where they adored her. She had such a major impact on so many!

Ruby is survived by her brother Charles Boyd Sr. (Rosetta); daughters Sherry Wynn (Bryant) (Knoxville TN), Robin McCrear (Gary) (Covington, GA), & son Michael Tyrone Walker (Knoxville), Robert Boyd (Knoxville “nephew like a son”), Deondria McBath (Knoxville "niece like a daughter"), God son Scott Dyer (Knoxville) .Favorite nephews (like sons); Charles Brown (Tracy), and John Avery (many more).
A host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, brother-in-law, and sister-in-law’s, amazing cousins in AL that she grew up with, and so many more family & friends; Dwight Moore, Timothy White, Jerome Crenshaw, Patrick Hayes, Richard McIlwaine, Cornelia Oppenhein, Ernest Newton, and Lafayette Jones.
