Shirley Harris Obituary

Shirley Ann Harris, a beacon of light and love, passed away peacefully on November 13, 2024, at the age of 70. She entered this world on August 23, 1954.

Shirley's life was one marked by a passion for knowledge, a dedication to education, and a love for the arts that she enthusiastically shared with everyone around her.

An avid reader from a young age.  She found solace and adventure within the pages of books, which later inspired her to become a homeschool teacher.

Shirley's musical talents were a gift to all who heard her sing.

Her commitment to her community was evident in her role as a secretary for her local sorority chapter of Zeta Phi Beta. Shirley's organizational skills and compassionate nature made her an invaluable member of the organization, where she formed lasting bonds and contributed to numerous charitable causes.

Shirley was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Elmer and Edie Mae Rutherford; paternal grandparents, John and Lula Harris; her parents, John Bill and Mary Lynn (Rutherford) Harris; her aunts, Willie Rutherford, Bernice (Rutherford) Payne, and Elizabeth (Rutherford) Harris; her devoted uncle, James (Elizabeth) Harris Sr.; and her cousin, James (Janice) Harris Jr. She was also preceded by a host of other aunts and uncles who had been integral to her life.

Left to honor Shirley's memory are her former husband, Ronald Odell Harris; her son, Julian Odell Harris; her daughter, Cherilynn Ann Harris; and her special and dear cousin, Deborah Harris. Shirley's legacy of love and laughter will also be cherished by a multitude of friends and extended family members who were touched by her generous spirit and unwavering support.
