Stella Nichols

Mrs. Stella Cates Smith Nichols passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 29, 2018 at her home surrounded by love ones.  She was born February 8, 1939 to Augusta and Ora Hinch Cates in Knoxville, Tennessee.

Preceded in death by her husband, Andrew Nichols, Jr.; grandchildren, Elwood Smith, Avery Venice “Peaches” Shorts and Christopher Kyle; brothers, Walter, Paul, Samuel, Jimmie and Howard Cates and sisters, Flossie and Catherine Cates, Marie Brabson and Ola Mae Martin.

She leaves to mourn her passing, children, Dorothy Kyle Williams and Hazel Smith; stepdaughter, Paulette Caldwell of Indianapolis, IN; sons, Charles H. Smith, Sr. and Johnny Smith; devoted granddaughter and grandson, Rayvetta and Antonio Kyle, Sr.; 9 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; 10 great great grandchildren; loving sisters, Pauline Cates and Joyce Wykle; a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends to include devoted niece, Gail Jackson and special devoted friend of 52 years, Lois Jones, of Middleton, OH.  

Friday, January 4, 2019, the family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. with service to follow at First Baptist Roseberry City at 217 Hiawassee Avenue, Knoxville, TN 37917.  Pastor Cedric Jackson officiating.  Interment will follow at TN State Veterans Cemetery, 5901 Lyons View Pike where a white dove release will conclude the service.  Flowers may be delivered to the church the morning of the service.  Professional arrangements entrusted to Patton Funeral Home, Brian L.
