Sylvia Young

Sylvia Maria Young, age 71, of Knoxville, passed away unexpectedly on May 29, 2021, at NHC HealthCare Fort Sanders.

Sylvia was born on November 2, 1949, in San Juan, Puerto Rico. In her younger years, she relocated to Fort Myers, Florida. There she met Luis Rodriguez, with whom she had two children, Dorothy Rodriguez, and Narita Rodriguez. Soon after, she met Curtis Young of Morristown, Tennessee, and relocated to Knoxville, Tennessee. They were married on May 5, 1985.

Sylvia worked as a cook at Fort Sanders Regional Hospital and retired in 2011 after 13 years. Sylvia was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed spending time with family, cooking, drawing, and coloring. She will be remembered for her beautiful smile, caring heart, sweet personality, and infectious laughter.

Preceded in death by her parents, siblings, and her beloved dog, Breezy Young.

Survived by her husband, Curtis Young; daughters, Dorothy Rodriguez (Richard Clark) and Narita Rodriguez; grandchildren, Olivia White (Isiah Manier), Candice Williams (Cornelius White), Freddie P. White II (Ashley White), and Brittney Hill; great grandchildren, Loyalty Williams, Promise Manier, Khloe, Haven, Isabella White, and Nico Hill; best friends Ollie Pearl and Kelly Cook.
