Overseer Tonya Moore-Tucker, a beacon of faith and love, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family. Born on June 19, 1953, in Knoxville, TN, Tonya was a well-respected and cherished member of her community. She was a woman of great strength, wisdom, and compassion, touching the lives of many.
Tonya graduated from Austin East High School in the class of 1971, where she was known for her academic excellence and kind-hearted nature. Her journey of lifelong learning led her to become a Licensed Cosmetologist, an accomplishment that paved the way for her to start the Makeover Hair Salon. Her entrepreneurial spirit and her passion for beauty allowed her to empower others, making a significant impact in her field.
Her commitment to her faith was unwavering. In 1999, Tonya took on the role of Intern Pastor at St. Joseph House of Prayer. Her devotion and leadership skills were quickly recognized, and within four years, she became the Overseer of St. Joseph House of Prayer. Her guidance brought light and comfort to countless individuals, and her legacy within the church community is indelible.
Tonya served on the board of Age of Life Fellowship International and was involved in CAC Leadership, where she worked tirelessly to improve the lives of others. Her contributions to the community were numerous, and she was honored by the African American Women Honored Society for her exceptional service and impactful presence.
A woman of many interests, Tonya's life was full of joy, laughter, and the pursuit of knowledge. Her passion for life was evident in everything she did, and her influence extended far beyond her immediate circle.
Overseer Tonya Moore-Tucker was preceded in death by her father, Bishop Joseph Alexander Gordon, and her grandparents, Edith and Horace Ervin.
Her legacy continues through her devoted son, Joseph Moore; her daughters, Misty Moore and Melissa Henderson; her mother, Thelma Gordon; her grandchildren, Jeremiah, Willie, Maggie, and Joseph; and her great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her loving siblings, sisters Joequita, Angela Rene, and Tiffany Michelle; and brother Gregory. Her uncle, Robert (Bob) Gordon; aunts, Julia Gordon; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends will forever cherish her memory. Tonya held a special place in her heart for her friends, whom she loved dearly.
