In Loving Memory of Vergenia Lawrencetta Hall (Genia)

There are some lives that leave a quiet but lasting imprint on the hearts of everyone they touch. Vergenia Lawrencetta Hall, lovingly known as Genia, was one of those rare souls. On the afternoon of July 8, 2025, surrounded by the love of family and friends in the comfort of her home, Genia peacefully transitioned from this life. Her presence was a gift, and her absence will be deeply felt by all who knew her.

Genia was born on August 3, 1949, in Knoxville, Tennessee, to the late Eddie B. Riley & Alberta Riley. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Eddie Marie Jenkins and George Amos Riley; her husband, John Hall; and her devoted friend, Bobby Manzie—all of whom she held close in her heart.

She was the devoted mother of four children: Sylvia Payne (spouse: Clifton), residing in Knoxville, TN, Alonzo Williams Jr., (Tammie) residing in Knoxville, TN, Lonzetta Williams, residing in Knoxville, TN, George Williams (spouse: Yoko), residing in Japan.

She was a cherished grandmother to: ShaNisha, Alonzo & Tania William, Dion Williams Frank , Antoneó & ShaDavia Roberts. Lexus & Lourdes Robinson Williams.

  And a joyful great-grandmother to: Tianna Crawford & Tynisha Williams, Harper Robertson, Aniyah Williams & Elijah McBath, Cuban & Carsyn Roberts, Grayson Wimbley.

Genia’s life was also enriched by the love of many close relatives and friends, including:

Fayetta (spouse: Calvin)Schofield, James (spouse: Teresa)Davis. The Bufords & Evans-Myers Family. The devoted Linda Boatwright, Lois Battle, Helen Hall, and the late Joann J. Glenn along with many others whose lives were touched by her presence. We would also like to honor her caregivers Olympia Jenkins, Sumer Fletcher & Donna Ramsey for their relentless efforts and support.

Genia was a woman of remarkable warmth and unwavering devotion. She was loyal and deeply committed to her family and friends. She expressed a natural gift for connecting with people from all walks of life. Whether through heartfelt conversations, a welcoming smile, or a quiet act of kindness, she made others feel seen, valued, and loved!

One of Genia’s greatest joys was cooking for her family. Her kitchen was the heart of her home—a place where meals were prepared with love and served with care. Whether it was a holiday feast or a simple weekday dinner, she found purpose and joy in feeding others and bringing people together around the table. Genia’s spirit was one of resilience, compassion, and grace, and her legacy will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
