Victoria Grate

Victoria Elizabeth Grate was born to Annie Thomas and James Irby on January 12, 1968 in Oak Ridge TN. She went home to be with the Lord on August 21, 2018 at Methodist Medical Center in Oak Ridge TN where she was surrounded by loved ones.

Victoria was the youngest of four sisters Lucille, Sharron, and Pauline. As a young girl, she was quiet and shy.  She attended Oak Ridge High School where she made many friends whose friendships continued throughout adulthood. In high school, she met her future husband Kayvin Grate and they would later marry on September 29, 1989. To this union, three beautiful children, Amber, Kayla, and Kayvin Jr. were born.  

Victoria enjoyed traveling, cooking, shopping and spending time with loved ones.  Her greatest joys were her grandbabies, Kayvin III, Jahi, Kaycin, and Noel whom she called “her little monsters.” To describe her as remarkable is an understatement! A few words to give insight as to who she was: loving, truthful, thankful, giving, faithful, caring, concerned, compassionate, humble, and beautiful both inside and out.  She was an absolute joy and her spirit was contagious.  Victoria loved her family and friends whom will miss her dearly and cherish her memory forever.  

Preceded in death by her parents and sister, Pauline Thomas.

Survived by her loving husband: Kayvin Grate Sr.; three children: Amber Grate, Kayla Grate, Kayvin Grate Jr.; four grandchildren: Kayvin Grate III, Jahi Grate, Kaycin Grate, Noel King; sisters: Lucille Griffin and Sharron Moulden; nieces, Pam Thomas and April Moulden; nephew, Shawn Thomas; a host of other family and many friends who held a special place in her heart. 

Saturday, August 25, 2018, the family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. with service to follow at True Light Baptist Church at 3229 George Light Road.  Elder Darris W. Waters officiating.  Interment to follow at Oak Ridge Memorial Park where a white dove release will conclude the service.  Flowers may be delivered to the church the day of the service.  Professional arrangements entrusted to Patton Funeral Home, Brian L.
