Wilbur Moore III was born July 31, 1948, to the union of the late Wilbur and Lillian Moore Jr.
Wilbur entered into eternal rest from his home on Thursday, August 26, 2021. He was preceded in death by his late parents, Lillian and Wilbur Moore Jr.; his daughter, Crystal Moore; granddaughter, Jereara Morrison; sisters, Wilma Moore, and Iva Moore.
Wilbur, a member of Charleston United Methodist Church, was a graduate of Charleston High School, class of 1966. After graduating, he enlisted in the United States Armed Forces where he served his country in the Army.
Shortly after returning home, he began a career with the Charleston Police Department where he eventually became the 1st African American Deputy Sheriff of Bradley County. He later worked at Bowater Paper Mill where he retired after 22 years as a Boiler Operator. One year after he retired, he opened W & W Restaurant which became a very successful barbecue eatery.
Wilbur is survived by loving wife Peggy of 27 years; Daughters, Benita (Chris) Wood, Elizabeth Moore; Grandchildren, Kristen Wood, Chris Wood Jr., Rivers Grimes, Ernest Harris III, Angel Vital-Herne, Baylor Wood; many other relatives and friends.
Wilbur was a devoted and loving father who served his family, friends, and community with a giving heart. He will be truly missed by all.
Memorial Service will be Saturday, September 4, 11:00a.m, Charleston United Methodist Church, Charleston, Tenn. Pastor Joseph Ratledge will give words of comfort.
