William C Henderson Obituary

Mr. William Calvin Henderson Sr. was born in Rockmart, Georgia.  At an early age, he moved to Knoxville, Tennessee with his sister. He attended Vine Jr. High School and Austin High School class of 1959.  He retired from the State of Tennessee with over 30 years of service, including a top chef position at the University of Tennessee and an illustrious career in law enforcement as a Correctional Officer.  Mr. Henderson also worked as a Special Deputy with the Knox County Sheriff’s Department, Security Officer at the Knox County Health Department and Knox County Schools. He did private duty security and traffic control for various companies throughout the city of Knoxville. He was a member of the FOP.  One of his most rewarding endeavors was the provision of security for the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commemorative Commission of Greater Knoxville.  He was a prior member of New Covenant Baptist Church and a present member of Payne Avenue Missionary Baptist Church where he had served as a Trustee, church security, and as a member of the Usher Ministry. 

 He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. Will Henderson and Mrs. Ola-V. Taylor Henderson, two sisters, three brothers, three step-sons, and the mother of his children, Mrs. Beatrice Henderson. 

 

 Left to cherish his memories are his devoted wife of 32 years, Mary Carter-Henderson, daughter, Janet Young (John) of Texas, sons, William C. Henderson Jr. (Telena) of Maryland, Mark Henderson (Tamara) of Florida, Brian Henderson (Stephanie) of Tennessee, step-son Michael Glenn of California, step-daughters, Shirley Glenn and Paulette Flowers (Allen) of Tennessee, granddaughters, Nacole Foster (Leroy), Kaylah Henderson, Kyrah Henderson, Jada Young, Brittney Henderson, Sydney Martin, and three great-grandchildren. Rockmart, Georgia family, Lee and Sherry Jones, Larry and Jacqueline Jones, Kamisa, Deandra, and Buddy.  

Two brothers-in-law, Gary C. Carter Sr. (Delilah) and Kenneth Carter Sr. (Debora), Devoted nephews Christopher L. Carter Sr., Gary C. Carter Jr., and BJ Carter.  Bonus daughter and special friend Vieanna Jones and family. A host of other nieces, nephews, and friends.
