Emma Sutton Obituary

Our dearly beloved Christian mother, Emma L. Sutton of Oak Ridge, Tennessee departed this earthly life for her heavenly home on Friday, July 24, 2020 in the comfort of her home surrounded by her loving family.

Preceded in death by her husband, George Sutton, Jr., to whom she was married to for 64 years; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Johnson; two brothers, Willie Golden, Sr. and Eddie Golden, Sr.; one sister, Thelma Felton; one aunt, Mary Beasley and a sister-in-law, Willie Mae Yancy.

Mother Sutton was known as “G” or “G-Mama,” to family and friends. She loved her family and friends alike and was extremely generous to anyone she met.  If you needed something and she had it…it was yours.  She used her gifts to the fullest in serving others through music, ministry leadership, gardening, cooking, and sharing wisdom.  She loved, loved, loved working for Jesus! She was involved in several ministries in the church: Willing Workers, Children and Senior Choir, Sunday School and wherever there was a need.

Mother Sutton leaves to cherish her memory to her unquestionably and unconditionally loyal, and loving daughter, Sarah Frances Douglas of Oak Ridge, TN; loving grandchildren, Sophia Chappell, Wanda (Terry) Knaff, Amy Olawore, Bernard Douglas, C.Rayshelle (Anthony) Hickey, and E. Carissa Maddox; great grandchildren, Alonzo, Raymica, Tyrus, Xavier, Lawrence, Jaeshawn, Treston, Kamoni, Taiylr, Itaiyah, Icelyn, Candi, Codi, Cayden, Cleveland, Kyla, Brooklyn, Amber (Chad), Jamica, and Bridgett; great great grandchildren, Azona, Alani, Avayeh, Chandon, Harper, Demeah, Dennis, Jayden, Manny, Zayden, Layla, Laniah and Ariah; nieces, Patricia (Henry) Cleveland, Lavonne Golden, Maggie Wolfe, Thelma (Leonard) Cain, Emma Benjamin, Olma Lee Golden, Leolma (William) Alston, Catherine (Joseph) Alexander, Louise Thomas and Margaret Jackson; nephews, Eddie Golden, Jr., Freddie (Shawnte) Golden, Johnny (Nykole) Golden and Willie (Alma) Golden; close relatives, Elder Charles and Maria Yancy, Rosie, Mary Jean, Sue, John (Althea) and their families; special friends, The Senior Sweeties: Ethel Sykes, Maudine Sloan and Ora McKinnon. Pinkie Daniels, William Wright, Randy Harris, Lee Dixon (Monchie), Clarence Threat, Ray Maddox (Dizzy), Elder Darris W. Waters and family and so many more too numerous to name but fondly remembered.
